John Knubley was a well respected & notable, Sword Cutler & Gun Maker to the Royal Family & a contractor to the Board of Ordnance, being active from apprx.1770 to 1795. in Otly, Yorkshire, then Charing Cross, London. Barrel is marked – Knubley ~ London w/ crowned ciphers, Knubley on lock as well as owner’s monogram on brass handle plaque. Metal is mottled & smooth; all hardware appears original w/ very crisp, full- functioning mechanics & smooth, clean bore. Trigger guard, lock, hammer & tang are nicely engraved by maker. Wood is excellent & appears to have original finish, showing normal small dents & NO cracks or missing sections. Ornate brass is in very good condition. The gun appears to have never been apart, let alone a screw turned, indicating that the flint is probably original. Another plus, this fine looking piece has the original, ivory-tipped ramrod - rare indeed!
