1948 Jaguar Mark IV DHC ~ Babe Paley ~

Documented, Celebrity Provenance.

The 1st "Jaguar" (by name) created by Sir William Lyons who commented - "It doesn't cost anymore to make it pretty" ~ All Correct, #1-/2+ Condition, winning 1st Place in every show entered. Of the 375 produced as left hand drive Mk IV’s, this is 1 of less than 60 known to remain. This magnificent specimen has an all-correct, 3 yr. frame–off restoration presented in its stately Black w/ Camel interior.

~ The original, documented owner was "Babe" Paley, recently portrayed as one of Truman Capote's "Swans" in the feature films - "Capote" & "Infamous". She was the wife of William S. Paley, President & founder of CBS. Babe was a fashion editor for VOGUE & was always on the "Best Dressed" lists, residing at the top of New York Society. She has been attributed w/ saying -"One can never be too rich or too thin". Babe, along w/ her many Who's Who friends, such as Truman Capote and her beautiful black Mark IV made memorable drives around the New York social circles ~

This is one of several collector automobiles listed below that are being offered for the first time from a classic car enthusiast's 30-year collection. The vehicles can be procured as a group.

  • 1966 Jaguar Mark II 3.8S 4 door Saloon.
  • 1969 Jaguar XKE Roadster.
  • 1979 Jaguar XJV12 Sedan.
  • 1967 Bentley T Series Sedan.
  • 1981 DeLorean, signed by John DeLorean - Publicity car for "Back to the Future", with actual, movie prop "portable nuclear reactor exhaust vents" w/ speakers etc.

All vehicles stored in a Temperature controlled facility on trickle battery chargers w/ routine maintenance as needed & exercised regularly, but minimally. Each vehicle will be individually photographed outside in detail when conditions permit.

Very rare, complete 120 w/ much work already done & only surface rust. Runs & Drives, but a Total Resto is in order. Fuel Pump & Carb were recently rebuilt, fuel pump installed & awaiting installation of carb.
